Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Noxious Weed Director, the employee will identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials, or contaminated soil.

Essential Function Statement(s)

  • Comply with prescribed safety procedures or federal laws regulating waste disposal methods.
  • Record numbers of containers stored at disposal sites, specifying amounts or types of equipment or waste disposed of.
  • Clean contaminated equipment or areas for re-use, using detergents or solvents, sandblasters, filter pumps, or steam cleaners.
  • Follow safe waste disposal procedures
  • Use government regulations
  • Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products
  • Assist with chemical sales
  • Perform job-related repair, cleaning, and maintenance tasks within the Department.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Other related duties as necessary or required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience: Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Skills: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

Problem Solving: Some problem solving does exist in this position.

Decision Making: Little decision-making required.

Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department, and does not participate in the annual budgetary process.

Supervision: Requires little or limited supervision. Noxious Weed Director always reviews Job assignments. The employee does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Personal Relations: Occasional contact with county departments and the general public.

Working Conditions: Job performance involves physical effort and manual labor. Extreme weather conditions are a factor in this position.

Physical Requirements: Ability to verbally communicate with employees and supervisors; work extended hours as required; extreme physical effort and labor required to operate and maintain equipment; ability to lift and carry heavy parts and tools; ability to operate pickup. Exposed to Contaminants.
