As a member of the Future Forward engineering team, you will join a small team of experts in the fields of robotics, imaging and software engineers. You will collaborate and contribute to conceptualize, design, and evaluate new solutions for medical image analysis and computer vision for a novel system. You will contribute across the entire development cycle, taking algorithm concepts from initial prototypes to production software.
In this role, you will design and implement a variety of software components, as part of the Future Forward algorithms and software team. You will take on projects with broad technical scope, covering robotics, computer graphics, and user interface design. The ideal candidate is an independent and fast-paced developer with excellent problem-solving skills, able to translate rough and approximate requirements into working prototypes, so to arrive at high quality, complete solutions through methodical iterations.
Quick learning and a desire to understand requirements from a user's and engineering's perspective are essential to become a valuable system developer. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with designers, clinical engineers, and other software developers to iteratively create world-class user experiences for a new robotic surgery platform;
- Develop a complete and highly performant GUI that allows physicians to control a complex robotic system;
- Create sophisticated, interactive visualizations of medical images and robot sensor data;
- Construct 3D virtual environments that depict the interaction of medical instruments and deformable biological tissues;
- Refine prototypes to production-quality software
- Define high-level requirements, and architect clean software interfaces for a distributed robotic system
- Participate in failure mode analysis, to identify and implement robust hazard mitigation strategies
Qualifications
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must have:
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or advanced degree without experience, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with development in Unity or other 3D graphics engines (e.g., Unreal, Godot, etc.) preferred
- Strong working knowledge of C# and/or C++ and object-oriented programming
- Demonstrated expertise in computer vision, medical image analysis, or machine learning.
- Great communication and documentation skills
- Experience working in large software codebases.
- Full-stack mentality, with flexibility to contribute to different areas of the codebase.
Ideally, a candidate would also have:
- Familiarity with development in a Linux environment
- Experience with game assets (e.g., meshes, animations, materials, shaders)
- Experience in profiling and optimizing game render performance on CPU and GPU
- Experience with C#/C++ interoperability and performant data structure marshaling.
- Understanding of UI/UX design process, and experience working with UI/UX team to implement leading concepts as functional prototypes.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following libraries and tools: OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, ITK, ROS is a plus

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
Base Salary Range Region 1:$116,500 - $157,600 Base Salary Range Region 2: $99,000 - $134,000 Shift: Day Travel: 10% of the time Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
