Morrison Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 18 offices worldwide, has an opening for a Business Development Manager working with our Food + Agriculture and Retail + ECommerce groups! This role can be based in any of our U.S. offices. (San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Austin, Boston, New York, Washington, D.C. or Miami).

The Opportunity

MoFo is looking for a dynamic, strategic Manager to support the growth of our multidisciplinary Food + Agriculture (“Food + Ag”) & Retail + ECommerce groups, through targeted business development, events, and profile-raising. The role requires strong project management skills with persistent, effective follow-up on tasks. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of intellectual curiosity, paired with an understanding of legal practices critical to Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce companies and enthusiasm for an industry approach to business development.

  • Facilitate sessions with Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce co-chairs and other key players to set the group's strategy. Document strategy plan and ensure that all activities align with the group's strategy.
  • Build and maintain a list of targets for Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce -related work, both existing clients and greenfield targets. Monitor industry press and other resources to proactively identify targets (companies, funds, etc.). Research key players at targets and, working with Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce co-chairs and other attorneys across the firm, develop a plan to obtain work from targets.
  • Ensure consistent, prompt follow-up on Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce -related opportunities stemming from conference attendance, our own events, the targeting work described above, or other sources.
  • Identify key organizations with which to partner on Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce business development efforts, as well as top conferences and events in the space. Identify awards for which to nominate our attorneys and our clients, and work with appropriate MoFo resources to draft award nominations. Partner with the Communications team to develop a PR/communications plan for the Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce practices.
  • Conceptualize and execute MoFo events focused on Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce that serve the group's strategic goals. Offer creative ideas for connecting meaningfully with clients and prospects in the Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce space.
  • Update and expand MoFo's Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce web presence, including dedicated landing page.
  • Creating content campaigns that drive awareness of the firm's capabilities and reach our target client base.
  • Develop and maintain a list of CLE/training topics to present to clients in private trainings, panel discussions, or webinars.
  • Update and maintain marketing materials on our Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce groups.
  • Working closely with the Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce Co-Chairs and Steering Committee, serve as the central point of contact globally for the firm's Food + Ag & Retail + ECommerce focused BD efforts across practices. Plan and host regular Steering Committee meetings; ensure follow-up on action items from meetings.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required. At least seven years of relevant experience in professional services marketing; law firm experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.
  • Working knowledge of Food + Ag, Retail + ECommerce industries desired, with direct work experience a plus.
  • High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent writing skills. Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations.

Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following:local market data and ranges; an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; andcertain degrees, licensing, and certifications.

New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range: $120k to $165k

Los Angeles, San Diego salary range: $115k to $155k

Denver salary range: $105k to $145k
