The department seeks to hire a smart, experienced, hardworking and dependable Budget Specialist I to join our dedicated team. Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide fiscal oversight of US Department of Agriculture (USDA) program federal budgets, including calculations, dissemination of federal funds, and the timely and appropriate use of federal funding.
- Monitors state match and federal expenditures to ensure they are within budget and inform program managers of the status and availability of funds.
- Work with program and project managers to develop USDA budgets and project obligations.
- Interpret state and federal laws, regulations and policies related to the USDA federal funding and the program budgets to the state agency and vendor/sponsor personnel.
- Drafts and recommends policies and procedures on fiscal and budgetary matters relevant to USDA federal funding.
- Analyzes statistical and financial data relative to USDA federal funding and payments to approved vendor/sponsors for USDA federal budgets.
- Monitors spending/expenditures and research problems to identify issues and recommend corrections.
- Analyzes variances in the funding allocations from the previous year to be able to inform agency management regarding the differences.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position. EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional experience in statistical or policy analysis, accounting, auditing, planning, or a related field.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Professional experience in statistical or policy analysis, accounting, auditing, planning. or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
