Job Responsibility:
The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University seeks an experienced and creative individual for the position of Executive Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications. Under the direction of the dean, the successful candidate will work as a communications strategist to represent ASU Law in building a comprehensive strategy to enhance the law school's reputation and improve enrollment outcomes to meet the college's goals. This position will oversee 9 team members and will work with other units to maximize and optimize marketing efforts, while guiding the dean and college leadership in strategic efforts to position the law school and its programs. Candidate should be available for limited travel and presentations.

Essential Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervising the staff of the law school's Marketing and Strategic Communications team. This includes the Director of Marketing and the Assistant Director of Communications.
- Managing the projects of the Marketing and Communications team and setting priorities for the unit.
- Advising college leadership on marketing and communications opportunities in support of strategic initiatives.
- Developing new and maintaining current relationships for ASU and the college of law with media organizations such as newspapers, local and national television and radio stations and television networks.
- Managing media relations and serving as the senior media relations officer.
- Writing, reviewing and advising on design of stories and other features with media potential.
- Supporting the dean for presentations and speeches.
- Developing and maintaining the marketing and communications budget in cooperation with the college CFO.
- Preparing and submitting reports regarding Marketing and Communications operation, including an annual strategic plan for communications and marketing.
- Overseeing the hiring, training, and evaluation of Marketing and Communications staff.
- Resolving problems and issues affecting Marketing and Communications and directing measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the office.
- Physical presence at the workplace is an essential function of this position.
- Other duties as assigned to support the goals of the college of law and/or ASU.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment, and eight (8) years of related administrative experience which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of: the principles and practices in strategic public relations; managements and supervision; budget management methods and techniques; organizational management; principles and strategies for effective marketing.
- Experience in: consulting on communications issues for a law firm or on legal matters; project management; leading public relations efforts in a legal environment; branding and marketing a product; coordinating and building relationships with the media.
- Experience supervising a team of subordinates; including managing, coaching, conducting performance evaluations and promoting an overall positive team environment.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of: writing, editing, and distribution of news releases; local, regional and national media sources and contacts; higher education issues, rankings.
- Experience in: identifying, developing, and marketing a product; translating materials from specific disciplines for release to media for public consumption; written and verbal communication; maintaining effective working relationships; interacting with diverse populations; using a computer and applicable software.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology.
